I’m definitely a city girl, but I can still enjoy a bit of peace and quiet! 5 days in a remote chateau in France last Autumn really helped me wind down after a hectic summer. Here’s why you should consider it too…
You will feel like a prince/princess
Most people want a taste of what it’s like to be royalty, and spending time in a huge chateau can do just that. You might not receive the chauffeur and service that the royals do, but the sheer size of the chateau will make you think you’re living in a fairy tale castle.
A chance to relax in luxury
With plenty of rooms to choose from, hopefully you will be able to find space to relax in during your stay. Or better yet, if the sun is shining grab a book or a glass of wine and head to the gardens, or the pool, to take full advantage of what the chateau has to offer.
A chance to escape to the countryside
Relaxing seems to be easier when you have less to be distracted by. Being away from the city also means you can re-charge from a bout of fresh air. The French countryside brings the added bonus of peace and quiet to clear your head, as well as plenty of scenic drives.
There’s plenty of space for friends & family
Chateaux are not usually short of space, so you can take your bestie or take all of your besties, depending on the kind of vibe you’re looking for. No matter how many people you take, it’s a great chance to catch up with your nearest and dearest because you don’t have to be on the go all the time.
Or lots of space for yourself!
Just because there’s lots of beds, doesn’t mean you have to fill them. It might cost a little more, but you can certainly go by yourself for complete alone time and a chance to do whatever you like, when you like.
You don’t have to do anything
The beauty of being away from home is that you get to leave most of your obligations behind, which means that you don’t have to be anywhere at a certain time. You can choose to spend your time simply doing nothing around the chateau or you can catch up on reading by the pool!
But, exploring is also an option
Because you’re probably surrounded by new and beautiful scenery, you might want to explore – at least for a few of the days! So, if you’ve had enough of relaxing and lazing around, jump in the car and head out to see what’s around you.
You can buy fresh produce and cook local cuisine
By doing a little bit of exploring, you will get a chance to check out some local eateries, or fresh produce shops. Having the chateau means that you can enjoy preparing some local foods in the comfort of your own space and feel like you’re really immersing yourself in the French culture.
