December is the most wonderful time of the year because it’s filled with family, friends and food! I started the month in Prague with a group of friends and ended it in Montrose, at home surrounded by family. Here are my top 3 meals from the month:
Dish Burger Bistro
When 9 of us booked to spend a winter weekend in Prague, my first thought was where should we eat? I found Dish Burger Bistro and I managed to secure a table for us on a Friday night. The restaurant has a very casual feel, but the big, wooden tables were ideal for us because it meant we could all sit together and relax.
The menu is filled with a wide range of burgers, sides and salads. I was torn between a couple of the burgers, but I opted for the Kahuna because I love pineapple and cilantro, so the pineapple salsa was a big draw. Christine and I ordered a burger each and decided to share the garlic fries and habanero coleslaw. The burger was massive and consisted of serrano ham, manchego cheese, salad and pineapple salsa with cilantro and chilli. The beef burger was cooked pink and was incredibly juicy.
The toppings made the meal even more delicious and the sides were great. The fries had plenty of garlic and the coleslaw was full of flavour. The menu also has a number of dips, so I had ordered an orange mustard one for my fries and I really enjoyed it! This is definitely one of the best burgers I’ve had and I would highly recommend to any food/burger fans.
On arriving home for Christmas, my first stop was my friend Louise’s, where I was greeted with a Candy’s salad for lunch. Candy’s is a sandwich bar in Montrose that I have always loved. The BBQ chicken with cheese and coleslaw is my ideal combo, but the coronation chicken and prawns are also yummy.
The baguettes here are popular and for good reason; they are massive and the bread is lovely and soft. You can also get a half baguette, which is a more manageable size or a sandwich or salad. All of the toppings are laid out in the fridge in front of you, so you can choose what you’re in the mood for and the friendly staff will put it together for you. If you’re in Montrose and looking for a place to grab lunch on the move, head to Candy’s.
The best meal of the year is definitely Christmas dinner! In the middle of the month we had a friends Christmas dinner, which was wonderfully cooked by Kirsten and of course on the 25th I had the joys of sitting down to my Mum’s home cooked feast.
We have a small family, but our Christmas lunch is no small feat. My plate is heaped with meat and veg, including roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese, parsnips and Brussels sprouts. For the first time ever, at 26 years old, I made a dish for the meal and copied Kirsten’s Brussels sprouts recipe with onion, bacon and chestnuts – it was delicious if I do say so myself!
Although Christmas dinner is my favourite, the whole day is great because it’s filled with lots of food from breakfast to bedtime.
