6 Places for Late-Night Food in Edinburgh

Ox 184

Food served until: 2.30am

The Fringe is my favourite time of year in Edinburgh, but laughing can really take it out of you! Ox 184 in the Cowgate is ideal for when you need a light snack, a big meal or some dessert to round off your night. Ox is also a bar, so you can enjoy a beer or 2 whilst you nibble on some chicken wings or inhale a chocolate brownie.

The Pakora Bar

Open until: 11pm (3am Friday & Saturday)

Sometimes you don’t want a full meal, just a quick bite. The Pakora Bar, in the New Town, is perfect for an end of night feast or something light on the go. For me, you can’t go wrong with haggis or black pudding pakora, but there is a selection of meat and vegetable to choose from. There’s also the option of ‘mixed pakora’ if you can’t decide or want to try different flavours.

Kebab Mahal

Open until 12am (1.30am Friday & Saturday)

If you’ve ended your night in the Old Town and are looking for something delicious and messy to eat on your way, Kebab Mahal is the place to go. This Nicholson Square restaurant serves a wide selection of Indian food, but I would recommend one of their kebabs.

Café Piccante

Open until: 2am (3am Friday & Saturday)

Although kebabs are great I’m definitely more of a chippie kind of girl. Café Piccante is my ideal place for a late-night feast on my way home. Situated at the top of Broughton Street, here you can order chips and cheese or other fried goodies. At Café Piccante you can also continue your night out whilst waiting on your food because there is a DJ on Friday and Saturday nights!

Bar Napoli

Open until: 2am (3am Friday & Saturday)

One of my favourite end of night eateries is Bar Napoli in the New Town. When my friend Christine, first suggested we go here after a long day of celebrating and no eating (very unlike me!), I thought it was a takeaway pizza place. However, I was surprised and ecstatic to find myself sitting down in the restaurant to a pizza and a bottle of wine at 12am. I mean, who doesn’t want a thin Italian pizza and delicious wine after a night out?

Civerinos

Open until: 1am

More pizza! This is where to head if you’re finishing your night in the Old Town because who doesn’t want pizza after midnight? Or any other time of day for that matter… Civerinos has been open for a couple of years now, but I only recently had my first experience and fell completely in love! Whether you’re looking to grab a quick slice of pizza or indulge in a 20-inch pie, Civerinos has the answer to all of your pizza needs.
