There are 10 different destinations for the World Rugby Sevens Series, and the 2015/2016 season kicks off in Dubai this week. Below is an overview of 3 of the Rugby Sevens locations that I have visited; giving examples of how to spend your time when you’re not watching rugby!
The Burj Khalifa is the World’s Tallest Building and At the Top, Observation Deck has amazing views of the entire city. The building itself is an amazing design and it is great to learn more about the structure.
Burj Al Arab
The World’s Most Luxurious Hotel is the Burj Al Arab Jumeirah, which can only mean that it would be a mind-blowing place to stay whilst in Dubai. However, if this top of the range hotel is out with your budget, head to Jumeirah Beach where you can get a spectacular view of the Burj Al Arab whilst working on your tan!
The Dubai Mall
With the World’s Tallest Building and the World’s Most Luxurious Hotel, Dubai doesn’t do things by halves! The Dubai Mall is one of the biggest shopping malls in the world and has over 1,000 shops, as well as an aquarium! This means that there is something in the Dubai Mall for everyone.
The Dubai Fountain
Make sure you tie in your visit to the Dubai Mall with a viewing of the Dubai Fountain. Every 30 mins, from 6pm to 11pm, there are sound and light shows that will amaze all ages; the water rises as high as 140 metres! There are also a couple of shows during the day, but I would definitely recommend an evening showing.
This was my favourite activity in Dubai! We organised our Safari through our hotel but there are many companies that offer Desert Safaris. We were picked up from our hotel and driven to the desert where we went dune bashing in a 4×4 – this was ridiculously fun! I couldn’t stop laughing! Then you arrive at a camp where you can ride a camel, get a henna tattoo, smoke shisha and have food before watching a show. If you only do one thing whilst in Dubai make sure it is this.
Grill Meats Beer – Wellington on a Plate
We happened to be in Wellington at the same time as Wellington on a Plate. This festival started in 2009, as a way of showing that the city has to offer food wise. Restaurants throughout Wellington offer special menus and there is also a competition for the best burger. Grill Meats Beer was a Top 5 Finalist for the best burger and it is easy to see why – it was delicious! They offer a variety of different burgers and the meat is cooked perfectly.
The Ramen Shop
The Ramen Shop started out as a Pop Up in 2013 but the official restaurant only opened earlier this year. It is a very casual dining experience, as well as a very enjoyable one. The prices are good value and the ramen is excellent quality. The large tables make it a great place to dine with a group of friends or family; it has a very relaxed and welcoming feel.
Café L’affare – Brunch
Whilst I was in New Zealand brunch was definitely my favourite meal! A good brunch is a great way to fuel for the day ahead and it is normally budget friendly! Baked eggs soon became my brunch option of choice, and the baked eggs served in Café L’affare were some of the best I had whilst in NZ. We visited on a Sunday and it was extremely busy. After a short wait we managed to get a table; the lively atmosphere, and yummy food made the wait worth it.
Extra: Catch you own dinner!
We were lucky enough to stay with friends in Wellington who took us out fishing. We caught a range of different fish that our host prepared for us for dinner that evening. This freshly caught, home-cooked meal was my favourite of the whole trip!
Harry Potter Studio Tour
Harry Potter is quintessentially British, and Warner Bros. The Making of Harry Potter is a great way to spend an afternoon in London. I have been here twice now and it gets better with every visit. Whether you are a Harry Potter Fan or simply a movie enthusiast, this attraction has something for everyone!
Being the tallest building in the UK the Shard boasts spectacular views of the whole city. It is situated beside London Bridge and Borough Market, which means there is plenty to see on your walk to the Shard.
This vibrant food market is one the oldest and largest in London, and has a huge selection of different foods. Borough Market is always bustling and is the perfect place to head for lunch in London because there is so much to choose from. The market only operates Wednesday – Saturday, so make sure it is open before you make your way there.
West End Show
I love seeing shows and I always try to incorporate a visit to the theatre into my trips to London. This year I went to see Matilda which is a lot of fun for all ages, but I would also highly recommend Wicked, as I think it is a brilliant, original musical! Next year I have booked tickets for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, which I am extremely excited about!
