If you only eat one meal in Rome, make sure it is at Osteria Angelino dal 1899. It encompasses everything Italian and provides an excellent, authentic dinner.
My boyfriend and I went to Rome for a long weekend and had eaten in a couple of really nice restaurants but we wanted somewhere extra special for our last meal. We checked TripAdvisor and found that Osteria Angelino had great reviews and was also not far from our hotel, so we decided to give it a try. From the outside it doesn’t look like anything special, the perfect example of ‘do not judge a book by its cover’.
We arrived about 8pm and I am glad that we were not any later as we were lucky to get a table (we hadn’t made a reservation), but the people after us were asked to come back at a later time. It is quite small inside but that only adds to the cosy and intimate feel of the restaurant.
Straight away we could tell that the staff were extremely friendly and more than willing to help, especially when it came to translating the menu (it is all in Italian). In the end, Sam chose a bruschetta type starter that consisted of bread, cheese and anchovies. It was delicious! For his main, he went for a pork and apple dish and I chose spaghetti with pork in a tomato sauce.
We did not have to wait long for the starter and Sam got his main course not long after that. Unfortunately there had been a mistake with my spaghetti so it took a little longer to come, but it was worth waiting for!
We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals and the unfortunate mistake was really not a problem. The waitress apologised for the misunderstanding and so did the gentleman who was working front of house. It was clear that it was a genuine mistake and they were very pleasant about it. When we received our bill the chef apologised to us himself and he gave us 2 glasses of limoncello.
Overall it was a great dining experience in a restaurant full of enthusiastic staff, with a relaxed atmosphere and fantastic food and wine! Osteria Angelino was definitely my favourite restaurant in Rome.
